This Graviola - aka Soursop or Guanabana, depending on whom you ask - smoothie recipe marries the very unique taste of Graviola with something a little tarter: spicy ginger and zesty lime. To top it all off you have the amazing aromatic herbs - nutmeg, cardamom, vanilla and brown sugar all work together here, giving it a slightly Chai-like flavor.
Soursop has several health benefits, being considered a diuretic, hypoglycemic, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and antibacterial fruit. Because of Graviola's low sugar content, don't worry about adding Muscovado or brown sugar to give it a bit more sweetness. The fruit’s diuretic properties help to regulate blood pressure and its high fiber content means this smoothie will leave you feeling full - in Brazil, graviola is often recommended in cases of constipation and to help with weight loss.
Ingredients
For 1x 400ml smoothie:
- 1x Tropix Graviola
- 150 ml coconut water
- ½ teaspoon fresh grated ginger
- ¼ teaspoon nutmeg
- ¼ teaspoon cardamom, shelled
- ¼ teaspoon vanilla extract
- Juice of ½ lemon
- 1 tsp brown or muscovado sugar (optional)
Preparation
Run the pulp pack under warm water for a few seconds. This helps soften the pulp just enough so that it’s a little easier to slip out of its packaging. Combine pulp, ginger, coconut water, lemon juice, spices and sugar in a blender and beat until you get the desired consistency. Serve with a few ice cubes.
