Our commitment to sustainability

Children of the Amazon rainforest

We take this very seriously

As we pondered starting a business with products from the Amazon in 2021, one of the first things we decided was to be extremely mindful of its impact on the ecosystems and communities that depend on the Rainforest. In fact, we believe all of us do.

As lots of people around the world, we have been following with broken hearts the tragic effects of the - lack of - conservation policies by the current Brazilian government. We see it as our duty to support and showcase the initiatives that protect the Amazon Rainforest and Nature in general. This page serves to document where we are right now in this process, and where we want to be in the short future.

We are taking the following steps to reduce the impact of our business:

1. Outer packaging

carbon neutral package delivery

In Berlin we do as little repackaging of the products we buy from Brazilian producers as possible, and always using materials that are 100% free of plastics. We only buy boxes and other materials which follow the guidelines from the Forest Stewardship Council. Furthermore, we will be applying by the end of 2021 for their Certification of our packaging.

2. Plastics

Unfortunately, it is standard practice for this industry to use a plastic wrapping on the individual pulp sachets. We have raised this issue with all our current suppliers and are working with them to find alternatives to reduce the use of Plastics to zero by the end of 2021, as well as sourcing new suppliers that already use other materials, but do not export to Europe yet.

3. Production Methods

We make sure to work only with partners that support small-scale farms and producers and have high standards of sustainable production, preferably going beyond only minimizing their environmental impact. As above, we are working actively with them to get their production methods accredited by EU standards - which is already true of their Açaí offerings, which possess the EU Organic Farming Seal certificate.

4. Delivery

bike delivery

In order to not add to the Carbon footprint of our products we use 100% carbon neutral delivery only. In Berlin, whenever possible, we prioritize the use of bike messengers instead of vehicles. When we do use vehicles, we utilize the carbon-neutral services of DHL GoGreen at no extra cost to the final consumer.

5. Printing

We are also mindful of printing and our usage of paper in general. We do not use paper leaflets of any kind and even our nutritional information is presented on a webpage so we do not have to print it for each box. The stickers we use to display the QR code link is actually made of a recyclable Bioplastic adhesive from a 100% carbon neutral company.

6. Recycling

Not only do we try to use recyclable materials on the products as much as possible, we are also happy to re-use any of our boxes and cold- and ice-packs. If desired, you can ask for this on your checkout by sending us a message and we will arrange for the delivery partner to also pick it up.

Going Forward

UN Sustainable Development Goals logo

While conducting our business we are also committed to supporting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

The 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), are an urgent call for action by all countries - developed and developing - in a global partnership. They are at the heart of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015. They recognize that ending poverty and other deprivations must go hand-in-hand with strategies that improve health and education, reduce inequality, and spur economic growth – all while tackling climate change and working to preserve our oceans and forests.

You can learn more about all the goals on the UN website.

UN Sustainable Development Goal 10: Reduced InequalitiesGoal 10: Reduce inequality within and among countries.

How we follow it: by choosing partners and suppliers who support their local communities and generate jobs for populations outside of the big centers, encouraging the growth of micro- and small-sized enterprises in underdeveloped regions.

UN Sustainable Development Goal 12: responsible consumption and productions

Goal 12: Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns

How we follow it: by reducing our waste to a minimum and working with suppliers that provide ecological packaging and carbon-neutral delivery at no additional cost to our customers.

UN Sustainable Development Goal 13: Climate Action

Goal 13: Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts.

How we follow it: raising awareness on climate change mitigation, adaptation and impact reduction. Mitigating the impact of our products by committing to 100% carbon neutrality by 2022.

UN Sustainable Development Goal 15: Life on Land
Goal 15: Protect, restore and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, and halt and reverse land degradation and halt biodiversity loss.
How we follow it: we do not do business with companies that take part in deforestation or source their products from companies that do.
